Heirloom Beet Seeds

The beetroot is the taproot portion of the beet plant and is usually known in North America as beets; it can also be known as the table beet, garden beet, red beet, or golden beet. All our beets are Non-GMO, Heirloom beets. We also sell packs to bulk garden seeds. The  packs we carry contain between 50 to 250 plus seeds per pack depending on the variety.  The seed counts by weight are about1800 per ounce and 23000 per pound.  You will need 5 to 8 pounds per acre. Beets are very good for sprouts and microgreen production. We also carry an almost-lost Heirloom beet called the Mangel; this was used by homesteaders for livestock feed as well as filling the root cellar. You can grow these in the cold; in the heat, keep the seeds moist when germinating. They take 7 to 14 days to germinate. Also, with your beets being a root crop, it works the soil loose to make for easier harvesting. And we never use manure for any of our quick growing root crops!

Here is a basic planting guideline: After your soil has been worked, plant about a quarter to half-inch down; it's very important to not over plant. Give each seed 16 square inches so that one seed is in a four inch square; closer is fine if you are only going after the tops. We recommend planting every 2 weeks from February until September. To our farmers market friends, pick a few kinds and plant early and often! You can grow these year round in warmer climates!
