Early Wonder Beets

Maturity Date: 60 days

Early Wonder Beets are mainly grown for the tops. Boy, they are tasty at any size, fresh or boiled, and make excellent greens. We carry packs and bulk garden seed. If you just want to have some, buy a pack or two. An ounce of seed will do about five 50 ft. rows and around five pounds per acre. We hope this gives you an idea on how much to buy and highly recommend you order a few varieties from plain to fancy.  

These are deep red, 1 to 2 inch globe-shaped roots, tall with glossy leaves, and have a sweet beet flavor. You can start picking around the 35 day mark. Cold tolerant, these will grow any place in the USA. Will keep in the cellar for a few months. If you play your cards right, you can have beets year round. All the varieties we carry are Heirloom, Non-GMO, open-pollinated vegetables.   

Basic growing ideas: These beets will take a week or better to germinate. Here are two very important steps: First, keep your seed beds moist and watered. Second, get your soil loose and composted. Remember, beets are a root crop and need loose soil to grow. Don't over seed this variety; one seed for every four square inches is as close as you will want them.   

Fun facts: The early Wonder variety hit the seed catalogs  around 1911 in the US and has been unchanged every since. So, it's filled with all flavor and nutrition as well as being very hearty and easy to grow. 

To  our farmers market friends, you should get about four ounces of each beet variety for every market you do.

   You plant them  year round. In zones 7 and above 

 And from the time the ground. Un freezes until September.   You will want succession plant. Every 2 or 3 weeks. Whatever zone you are in.
